I thoroughly enjoyed your Northumberland Coastal Run yesterday, as always it was well organised and a real pleasure although tough to run. I note that you also posted that you had prizes for all age categories? As I am fairly certain that I was first 80+ male competitor, crossing the timing mat inside the cut off time, am I ineligible for a prize?
My name is Bill (William A.) Brown of Heaton Harriers,
    D.o.b. 04.04. 1942 and race number 328
Nevertheless thank you for a wonderful day.

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our run and thank you for your comments. As published in our pre-race literature, prize categories only extended to the V75 category http://www.alnwickharriers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Prize-List-Details-2022.pdf
In addition, race categories had been decided prior to the race and as your age had not been entered onto “resultsbase” at the time of your entering our race, there were no records of any V80s entering. However, we note your comments and will discuss them at our post-race briefing.

We hope to see you again next year.
      Kind regards
      Sue Skirrow

Thank you for your reply Sue, nevertheless I have to say that on completing the entry form to enter the race its mandatory to enter the date of birth . I pointed this out to when I contacted “results base” and they immediately corrected the information in the official results to show my age category which is 80 +. and not “uncategorised ”
I have to say that I’m a bit miffed considering I was faster than some in younger categories at not being given credit for my run. It’s not so much the prize but the principle, I’m afraid it’s ageism.
Nevertheless I did enjoy the race & the complete day,so thank you for that.

    • Sue Skirrow says:

Sorry to hear you are “a bit miffed” at our decision not to award you a prize. Our race is a competitive event and we are run by a small group of volunteers. We made the decision to extend our prize giving to those in the 75+ age group this year and had 3 competitors but only males, no females. You would have come 2nd in that. We felt we were being understanding to award a prize when there are only 3 people in the category. We would require larger numbers of people entered into your category to justify a prize, even as you mentioned you had a faster time than many people younger than yourself. These sort of numbers only occur in larger events than ours, and as a small club we are unable to compare our prize giving with events far bigger than ours.

We as a committee are very sorry that you feel it is ageism and we are keen for this not to be the case. We felt we could not award a prize when only one runner was in that group; however as mentioned in my previous reply your comments have been noted and will be discussed at our post-race briefing.

      Kind regards Sue Skirrow

Thanks Sue, sorry to have been a pain. I do see your point of course & I concede that your correct, please accept my apologies. I’ve always had a good relationship with those I am familiar with in Alnwick Harriers and the last thing I want is to spoil that. Thank you again for a great day and I shall be back next year for another crack at it. See you at the Harrier League X-C events soon I hope.
    Best regards,
    Bill Brown

    • Sue Skirrow says:

No problem Bill and we look forward to seeing you at the Harrier Leagues and at next year’s Coastal Run.
      Kind regards

    Hi guys,

    I hope you’re doing well,

I just wanted to get in touch to let you know about a few benefits we’re looking to provide for clubs.

A little about us – we organise trail running events with distances from 10k up to Ultra Marathon around the coast of the UK and you can see our events listed here: http://www.endurancelife.com

We’d like to offer your club a 10% discount code if this is something your members would be interested in, we would also be happy to provide a 20% discount code if 6 or more members from your club come along to one event.

Also, we’re looking for good event crew who are familiar with outdoor activities to crew at our events, no experience is necessary. Crewing for the day can earn a free entry for you or your club or a £60 expenses payment for your time.

If any of the above is of any interest to your club and members please share it with them, and please get in touch with me if you’d like to take us up on the offers or if you have any questions!

All the best and look forward to hearing from you,

    Jordan
