Druridge Bay 10k/EMF Marathon and Half Marathon/Sheffield Hallam Parkrun/Gateshead Parkrun/Druridge Bay Parkrun/Portobello Parkrun/Whitley Bay Parkrun/Workington Parkrun

On a busy old weekend for the club Sunday 29th May witnessed the 3rd Grand Prix race of recent weeks, the Druridge Bay 10k. There were some excellent times, including pbs and an age category win. Well done to the organisation committee of the Druridge Bay 10k for hosting another superbly well organised event!

1st Harrier to finish, shaving exactly a minute off his time from last year was top prospect Ben KELLY! Ben was 6th finisher for the 2nd year running this time in a brilliant 37.10. Next home and winner of the Male Veteran prize was the evergreen Phil HEMSLEY! Just a few seconds slower than last year Phil was 8th across the line in a splendid 37.34. 3rd Harrier to finish and a whopping 3 and a half minutes quicker than last year was Dominic HARRIS in a second over 39 minutes. Dean STACKHOUSE was 4th in a pb, whilst slightly further back John CUTHBERT was amongst others who ran their best 10k time to date! For the ladies Karen KELLY, like son Ben, was our 1st finisher in 72nd overall.  Next up came Alex REED in 49.00, ahead of Justine NORMAN and Laura McLEAN.

Also that day north of the border there were some great performances by Harriers at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. In the full marathon there were huge pbs for both Sarah CROSS and Lisa BASTON. The pair have been training together for this race and look to have been training extremely well judging by their times! Sarah achieved a “Good For Age” entry into next years London Marathon, whilst Lisa knocked well over 10 minutes off her time in London last year! New member Tony ROSKILLY finished in just over 4 hours, whilst fellow Harrier Ian McALLISTER also ran well to clock just over 4 hours 30.

In the half marathon earlier in the day Richard JOHNSON knocked a chunk more time off his personal best at the distance and finished just outside the top 100. His 1.23.12 means he is still the fastest Harrier over this distance so far this year! Results:

The day before it was a busy day in the world of Parkruns as well. The fastest Harrier over the 5k distance this year, Issac MOSS, was just 2 seconds off his best at the Sheffield Hallam Parkrun where he finished 4th and clocked 17.05. Ross ANDERSON was back in action for us at the Gateshead Parkrun, where he finished a pleasing 5th in just under 19 minutes. Richard JOHNSON warmed up for his half marathon the following day with a jog round the Portobello Parkrun, Edinburgh in a fraction over 21 minutes and Paul ROBINSON took part in the Whitley Bay Parkrun. Perhaps the biggest shock of the day was at Workington where neither Richard nor Gay EASTOE won their age categories! Surely a first? Results:

4-Isaac MOSS 17.05

Gateshead:

5-Ross ANDERSON 18.59

Portobello:

Whitley Bay:

At the Druridge Bay Parkrun there was a battle between Paul GODDEN and Tim FALCONER, just as there was in the George Ogle Memorial Race in midweek. On this occasion however, Paul came out on top, beating Tim by a 25 second margin. Both secured personal best times, top 10 finishes and for Tim the male 50 age category win. Howard TAYLOR scored a course best, whilst Pam WHELDON won the female 60 category.
