North East Cross Country Championships/Beckton Parkrun/Workington Parkrun/South Shields Parkrun/Durham Parkrun/Druridge Bay Parkrun/Simonside Cairns Fell Race

Well done to the hardy Harriers who took part in the North East Cross Country Championships in blizzard like conditions at Sedgefield on Saturday 12th December. After a number of pull-outs due to a variety of reasons 10 Harriers took their places on the start line in the freezing conditions. The Senior Women tackled an 8.3k course and were led home by Ella BROWN who finished a magnificent 16th of well over 200 runners. She was backed up well by Diana WEIGHTMAN, Tracey SAMPLE and Sheona DUFFY, all helping to see the team finish a respectable 17th of the 29 teams. The Senior Mens race was over a challenging 12k route and Phil HEMSLEY was 1st of the 6 who started out. Richard JOHNSON was next followed by Paul GODDEN, whilst Nick ARMSTRONG just prevailed over an improving Steve STUDLEY. Captain Micky AISTON, celebrating his 45th birthday, had to pull out during the race due to injury. Sadly this meant that we did not have the required number of counters for the team event. Details of the Northern and National Championships will be on the website in the next day or so.
