On Wednesday 14th October Alnwick Harriers held their Annual General Meeting, once again at Alnwick Rugby Club. The meeting got underway with an introduction by club Chairwoman Sue BOLAM where she spoke of the superb year we’ve had and what a great position the club is in. She was followed by Secretary Jim LILLICO with his look back over the last year. Jim gave probably his shortest speech of his 5 years as Secretary, clocking in at just 18 minutes 47 seconds! Treasurer Cris ATWELL then spoke of the healthy financial position we are in, followed by Junior Secretary Diana WEIGHTMAN talking about some of the highlights of the year by our younger runners.
Of those 4 people mentioned 3 are stepping off the committee, whilst the other is stepping down to become a mere committee member! Jim LILLICO has done a fantastic job on the committee for many years, particularly the last 5 which have seen the club go from strength to strength. He will be a miss and whoever takes over as Secretary has a hard act to follow! Similarly Cris ATWELL has been on the committee for a number of years and has just completed his second stint as Treasurer, whilst Diana WEIGHTMAN has overseen the Junior section getting stronger and stronger. Sue BOLAM is stepping down as Chairwoman after doing this role for a few years, though she has kindly agreed to stay on the committee. Other committee members who are leaving are Stuart CARTER, Audrey STEWART and John ROSS. They will all be missed and the remnants of the committee would like to thank them for their help!
But its not all bad news! Tracey SAMPLE has stepped forward to become the Chairwoman, whilst Stuart MORRIS is now in charge of the club abacus. Other posts including Vice Chair and importantly Secretary remain vacant, though no doubt will be filled at the next committee meeting in November. Club members who have stepped forward to join the committee are Shelley COATES, Dave HINDMARSH, Dominic HARRIS, Sarah SYERS, Maureen BARTRUM, Sarah CROSS, Gareth BREESE and David CHARLTON, whilst Gary HALL and Jocelyn BOLAM have also offered to help with race organisation. Many thanks to them for helping out.
Just before the buffet was demolished the annual Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were given out. Well done to the following winners:
GOLD (More than 20 races)
SILVER (12 to 19 races)
BRONZE (8 to 11 races)
Here’s to another successful year!
