3 Harriers took part in the undulating Kielder Marathon on Sunday 4th October, and despite the challenging terrain all 3 did fantastically well. With every run Richard JOHNSON impresses more and more, and today was no different. Despite choosing one of the tougher marathons to make his debut in, Richard ran extremely well, clocking a brilliant 3.17.44! This gave him 19th place and is comfortably the quickest 26.2 miles by a Harrier this year. Richard gives a great deal of credit for this great performance to his coach Mike HENRY. Slightly further back, despite running a gruelling Ultra event a couple of weeks back, Andy STEPHENSON ran a personal best time. Again this is a superb effort on such a course. Also well done to Steven STUDLEY who made his marathon debut, and who was quite rightly chuffed with his time despite limited mileage in training! Well done to all 3. Results:
19-Richard JOHNSON 3.17.44
189-Andy STEPHENSON 4.00.13
329-Steven STUDLEY 4.24.08
Also at Kielder that day Diana WEIGHTMAN took part in the half marathon, where she ran 1.49.20 to finish 3rd in the female 50 category.
The day before there was success for Pam WHELDON in the Kielder 10k, where she scooped the female 60 honours! Pam clocked 56.42 to win her age category by 10 seconds. Ed WHELDON also took part and completed the tough 10k in 1.03.25.
On Sunday Adam FLETCHER took part in the Wee Toughie 10k at Coldingham. On a tough course Adam performed very well as always, finishing 3rd. No times are known as yet but i’m guessing it won’t be up with his best!
Also on Sunday Club Secretary Jim LILLICO and daughter Annabel took part in one of their favourite races, the Great Scottish Run half marathon in Glasgow. Both have been beset by injuries of late, so used this more of a training run with both crossing the line on Glasgow Green together in 1.51.04.
On Saturday 5 Harriers made their way across to the Lake District to take part in the latest of the Lakeland Trail Races at Coniston. Competing in the 15k Trail Challenge Dave BARTRUM ran very well to finish 66th of over 400 runners. Wife Maureen was not too far behind, whilst Morag DONOGHUE, Carol DAVISON and Ron McCORMACK also ran well. Results:
66-Dave BARTRUM 1.24.31
111-Maureen BARTRUM 1.30.17
194-Morag DONOGHUE 1.39.58
279-Carol DAVISON 1.48.36
349-Ron McCORMACK 2.03.10
In the world of Parkrun there were some great performances this weekend, with the pick of them being by one of the Harriers away at university. Isaac MOSS, competing in the Sheffield Hallam Parkrun, finished 19th of 615 runners in 18.15. Closer to home there were a whole host of age category wins and course pbs at Druridge Bay. Nick ARMSTRONG was 1st Harrier to finish in 11th place, winning the male 45 category in the process. Ian HORSLEY was 12th in a pb to win the male 55 category, whilst Cris ATWELL and David CHARLTON also bettered their previous times at the event. For the females there was another excellent run by recent Harrier League cross country star Karen KELLY. Karen ran a 10 second course best to finish 2nd in the ladies race. 3rd place went to Pauline AITCHISON and 4th to Jenny BOLAM, both in course bests, with Jenny knocking over 40 seconds off her previous!
