Druridge Bay Parkrun/Workington Parkrun/Portobello Parkrun/Skipton Parkrun/Tynedale Jelly 10 Mile/Carlisle City 10k

Many congratulations to Harriers legend Jo GASCOIGNE-OWENS for smashing the female course record at the Druridge Bay Parkrun on Saturday 29th August. The previous record had stood since the 1st event back in early August 2014, but Jo comfortably beat that time by clocking 18.22 to finish 2nd overall. It was a great morning for the club as the 1st finisher was also a Harrier, Ian SIMON! Ian finished just 4 seconds ahead of Jo and won the race despite having swum in Ladyburn Lake already that morning!

Our women dominated the race by filling 4 of the top 5 places. Jackie PROUSE was 3rd female, Tracey SAMPLE was 4th and a very happy Rachel McCOY was next in a 5k pb. It was also great to see Alex REED back in club colours after a spell out. Another happy Harrier was our 2nd male finisher Tim SHEPHERD as he also clocked a pb, as was Ed WHELDON who also knocked a few seconds off his previous best. Further back Mark HUME won the male 70 category!

The following day saw the latest of the 2015 Grand Prix races take place, the Tynedale Harriers Jelly Tea 10 Mile Race. For Some of the 9 Harriers who made the trip to Hexham this was one of the most soul destroying and demoralising race experiences ever! As always it was well organised and well marshalled, but the route was incredibly tough, with most Harriers stating it was the hardest road race they’ve ever done. The race started and finished high up at Hexham Racecourse and consisted of downhills which were too fast to race comfortably and incredibly long and steep uphills. It was tougher than many fell races and even harder than the Liversedge Half Marathon!! In fact only 6 runners (none of ours) finished in under an hour. However there was some good news as both Lesley MILLER and Pauline AITCHISON won prizes by finishing 2nd in their age categories. Also well done to Richard JOHNSON who arrived early to add 7 miles onto the start of the race, which he used as a marathon training run. The sadist. Results (chip timing):

96-Dominic HARRIS 1.16.16

107-Richard JOHNSON 1.16.51

119-Gary COWELL 1.18.25

178-Andy SQUIRES 1.23.59

190-Mark DOCTOR 1.25.02

198-Lesley MILLER 1.25.44

200-Pauline AITCHISON 1.25.24

354-John ROSS 1.42.04

400-Tim SHEPHERD 1.49.42

Finally, also on Sunday, Gay and Richard EASTOE took part in the Carlisle City 10k.  The husband and wife team ran together and both clocked 53.43, with Gay finishing 95th and Richard 96th.

Thanks to Dave RUNCIMAN for the photos of Jo GASCOIGNE-OWENS, Alex REED and Tim SHEPHERD at Druridge Bay, and to Dave KITCHING for Richard JOHNSON and Lesley/Pauline at Hexham.
