3 Harriers took part in races in foreign parts this weekend with the pick of them being Ella BROWN in the Reykjavik Half Marathon in Iceland on Saturday 22nd August. Ella finished in an excellent 1.25.02 to smash her previous best over the 13.1 mile distance set in last years Great North Run. Furthermore Ella was a brilliant 2nd female finisher in this excellent field; a top class performance.
Also that morning Graham SYERS was in action in Le Belier 27km Trail Race at La Clusaz in the French Alps. Spurred on by cheese and salami at the water stations Graham finished 222nd of over 800 runners in 2.56.09. By all accounts this was a hell of a lot tougher that trail races over here! Well done Graham.
Closer to home there was parkrun success for Steve CARRAGHER at Druridge Bay, when he bolted up in 17.34 to post his 4th success at the event. For much of the first lap Steve was in a battle with Dan LENG, though Steve puled away on the 2nd lap of Ladyburn Lake. Dan, however, ran a course pb of 18.21 and should be very happy with his mornings work. Further back Terry FOUNTAIN ran a course pb to dip under 20 minutes, whilst Nick ARMSTRONG and Dave CHARLTON made their Harriers debuts.
Well done to Jackie PROUSE who was 2nd female finisher at the event, having led for much of the 5k. Also well done to Tracey SAMPLE who’d been swimming in the lake beforehand and to Pam WHELDON who ran a course personal best. Results:
