A short report of the race, which took place on Sunday 21st August by Mike TELFER:
Yesterday was the 2nd Northumberland Coastal Marathon organised by NEMC (www.northeastmarathoncub.co.uk).
The race starts in Alnmouth and follows the coastal route up to Long Nanny Bridge just south of Beadnell then back again. It obviously follows a similar route to the ‘Coastal Run’ but sticks to the path all the way not allowing any respite that the road sections provide on the ‘one way’ race! Conditions were great the sun was shining and the wind got up nicely at about one o clock just to make the last couple of miles along the beach really tough!
The race capacity was 60 this year but attracted runners from all over the Country. The local runners were myself and Cris Atwell representing Harriers and Jim Manford the race organiser. I managed second place in 3.34.23 and Cris finished 16th in 4.27.29. I took the Vet 40 and and Cris the Vet 50 category prizes.
It was a great day excellently organised with good support from the Marshall’s and St Johns Ambulance.
