Saturday 6th September was a busy morning in the world of parkrun with numerous Harriers taking part in various events. Peter GREY was top man for his superb performance at South Shields, where he bolted up in 4th place. Peter ran the fastest time of the day by a Harrier clocking 18.54 which was also easily the highest WAVA score of the day by our runners. Another big WAVA score came courtesy of Gay EASTOE at Workington. Gay’s time of 25.05 saw her win the female 60 category, whilst husband Richard was 1st in the male 60 age group.

There were a number of Harriers making their parkrun debuts including Mark HUME who was 1st in the male 65 category. Chris FRIEND was making his debut in a Harrier vest and was narrowly beaten by Kim BRONZE in a great battle.

There were also great performances at Druridge Bay by Steven CARRAGHER and Karl BAXTER, two brand new members who joined after the parkrun was done and dusted. Steve was first finisher in a very impressive 17.26, whilst Karl ran a 5k pb of 31.36. Karl has taken part in all 5 Druridge Bay parkrun’s and has impressed many with his permanent smile and great enthusiasm! Welcome to the club both of you!

Later that day 3 Harriers were taking part in the latest in the Lakeland Trail Race series, the Derwentwater Trail Race at Keswick. A regular to these events, Dave COATES, was taking part in the 15k race where he finished 148th in 1.33.30. Meanwhile Dave and Maureen BARTRUM took part in the 15k challenge. The pair ran together till the last few yards when Dave outsprinted wife Maureen to finish 1 second ahead in 1.43.28 to take 244th place. Who said chivalry is dead?

Cris ATWELL put in an excellent performance at the Highland Perthshire Marathon at Aberfeldy that day. Running one of his fastest marathons for some time Cris was across the line in an excellent 3.40.02 to finish 54th.

Finally the following day globe trotter Rob ENSER took part in the Achenseelauf, billed as a panoramic and hard trail race in Austria. Rob finished the half marathon 231st of 930 finishers in 2.02.31. Gut gemacht Rob!
