Newcastle Parkrun/Whitley Bay Parkrun/Alice Holt Parkrun/Workington Parkrun/Northern Cross Country Championships

8 Harriers took part in the Newcastle Parkrun on Saturday 25th January, the highest number for some time. Well done to Eddie LONGSTAFF, taking part in his first Parkrun, for finishing first of the 8. However the highlight was Annabel LILLICO who was taking part in her first race for ages due to injury. Annabel has been performing very well in Wednesday nights Jackie/Kim group, putting in some extremely good work, which enabled her to knock over 80 seconds off her 5k pb today! Pauline AITCHISON was 1st in the female 40 category, John CALLAGHAN was also having his first race for a long time, Alex REED made her Parkrun debut, Tim SHEPHERD made his Newcastle debut, whilst the BASTON’s are nearing 100 Parkrun’s!!! Once again the fastest Harrier of the day was Danny RICHARDSON at Whitley Bay. In a field of over 300 Danny was 5th in 18.57 (69.57%).

Mark JEFFERIES was a very good 3rd at the Alice Holt Parkrun in Farnham, Surrey. Mark finished under a minute behind the winner in 20.07 (65.20%).

Finally at the Workington Parkrun Gay and Richard EASTOE were competing in their first ever Parkrun’s. Gay secured the highest WAVA score of the day by finishing 34th in 26.25 (72.43%). She was 1st in the female 60 category and after 33 events at Workington Gay holds the female 60 course record! Husband Richard was one place further back in 35th (60.15%).

Also that day Diana WEIGHTMAN was the sole Alnwick representative at the Northern Cross Country Championships held at Knowsley, Merseyside. In awful conditions Diana battled through mud, wind and a blizzard to finish a very good 132nd of the 232 runners. Quite amusingly and inexplicably Diana was listed on the results as Mohammed WEIGHTMAN! A new nickname for her??
