Brass Monkey Half Marathon/Folksworth 15/Whitley Bay Parkrun/Newcastle Parkrun

4 Harriers crossed the finish line, 2 of them in pb’s, at the extremely popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon in York on Sunday 19th January. Heavy rain before and at the start of the race meant everyone was a bit soggy, but the rain stopped soon after the gun thus ensuring perfect conditions on this very fast course. An extremely popular 1st Harrier home, possibly the most popular man in the club if not in north east running full stop end of, was Dave HINDMARSH! Dave has been training extremely well for the Tokyo Marathon in February and bolted up in an impressive 1.32.38, a cracking return to form after his poor 2013. Next home in a pb was Mark DOCTOR, finishing in 1.34.58. Mark has also been training well under the watchful eye of Mike “you’ll get a pb or get injured” HENRY. Charlie GILLON was next, doing well to finish after being poorly in recent days and finally Ruth DOCTOR. Ruth ensured the DOCTOR household was a joyous one with a 59 second pb, improving on her 2012 time in the same race by well over 3 minutes! Finally bad luck to Pauline AITCHISON who had to pull out of the race before half way with hip/cramp issues. I’m assured its not too serious and that Pauline will be hard at it again soon in her quest for a marathon pb at London in April. Results:

324-Dave HINDMARSH 1.32.38

428-Mark DOCTOR 1.34.58

724-Charlie GILLON 1.45.10

1017-Ruth DOCTOR 1.54.00

Also that day Hatfield based Harrier Melanie BUCHANAN was having her first race in a Harriers vest in the Folksworth 15, organised by Cambridgeshire based club Yaxley Runners. Mel is in training for the Vienna Marathon in mid April, and finished this undulating, hard race 404th of the 450 finishers in 2.36.10.
