Newcastle Parkrun/Alwinton Show Fell Race/Kirkley 10k

There was a superb performance by Dave KIRKLAND at the Newcastle Parkrun on Saturday 12th October. Dave arrived on time this week and blasted round the Town Moor in easily the fastest Parkrun time by a Harrier, 16.21. Dave narrowly missed out on a 5k pb and a new club record, finishing 2nd overall 10 seconds adrift of the winner. Dave is one of a number of Harriers taking part in next Sunday’s fast and very flat Yorkshire Marathon. Good luck to them all! Results:

2-Dave KIRKLAND 16.21 (84.10%)

98-Phil BASTON 22.11 (63.94%)

116-Cris ATWELL 22.42 (66.59%)

130-Charlotte BASTON 22.56 (67.59%)

Also that day a number of Harriers took part in both the Senior and Junior fell races at the Alwinton Show. The stand out performances were from 2 of our Juniors with Dan LENG winning the Under 16 race and Craig MUTER triumphant in the Under 13 race. The Senior and Junior races were both held over the same 3 mile course, with Dan being the quickest of the 9 Harriers taking part. Results:

Under 13:

1-Craig MUTER 23.58

8-Ollie TELFER 28.59

13-Finlay TELFER 36.52

Under 16:

1-Dan LENG 21.55

10-Mike TELFER 22.11

23-Jim LILLICO 24.30

28-Sarah GRAY 25.39

43-Dave COATES 28.34

53-Kim BRONZE 31.44

The following day there was yet more success for the club at the Run Northumberland Kirkley 10k as Laura McLEAN (female 50) and Gay EASTOE (female 55) were both winners in their age categories! However the main piece of news from the race is that Harriers stalwart Mike HENRY made an impressive comeback after spending over a year out with a career threatening injury. Mike has been keeping fit by cycling, including one journey from Lands End to John O’Groats! Despite hardly running of late Mike was just a few seconds behind the 1st male 60, finishing in 47.37. Results:

41-Mike HENRY 47.37

66-Laura McLEAN 52.43

83-Gay EASTOE 56.16

84-Richard EASTOE 56.16
