Tynedale 10 Mile Jelly Race/Blackpool Hilton Half Marathon/Bellingham Show Fell Race/Newcastle Parkrun/St Begas Ultra Marathon

Dave KIRKLAND was star man for us at the Tynedale 10 Mile Jelly Race on Sunday 1st September. Dave was a superb 6th overall, finishing the undulating route from Hexham to Ovingham in 53.39, thus winning the male 40 category. Lesley MILLER ran very well to finish next of the 8 Harriers taking part, followed by Charlie GILLON. Also of note John ROSS was competing in his 3rd race in 6 days, whilst Christopher WATSON ran a 10 mile pb beating his previous best from the much flatter Brampton to Carlisle race at the end of last year. The previous day Bruce CROMBIE was once again in action in a local fell race, this time the Bellingham Show Fell Race. The race is 4 miles in length, takes in 600 feet of ascent and took Bruce 36.40 to complete, to finish a close 2nd of the 29 competitors.

Also that morning 5 Harriers were on the Town Moor for the Newcastle Parkrun. Danny RICHARDSON was first home for us, with the ever improving John ROSS picking up more valuable WAVA points by improving on his best 2013 Parkrun time. Well done to the BASTON’s who took part despite arriving 5 minutes after the race had started! Results:

16-Danny RICHARDSON 19.11 (68.38%)

109-John ROSS 22.56 (67.59%)

173-Ruth DOCTOR 24.54 (61.04%)

251-Phil BASTON 27.34 (51.45%)

264-Charlotte BASTON 28.08 (55.09%)

Finally that day Gay and Richard EASTOE took part in their first ever off road ultra race, the 35 mile St Begas Ultra Marathon. The race starts at Bassenthwaite Lake and ends at St Bees on the west Cumbria coast. Its 95% off road, with some very sharp climbs and sounds a toughie! The pair finished 32nd and 33rd of the 56 finishers in 8.18.52, with Gay winning the female 50 category. A great effort by both, well done!
