Brampton to Carlisle 10 Mile Road Race/Newcastle Parkrun

On Sunday 18th November 26 Alnwick Harriers entered the final Grand Prix fixture of the year, the Brampton to Carlisle 10 Mile Road Race. Officially the oldest 10 mile road race in the UK in its 61st year, it incorporated the Northern Athletics Championships with our own Alnwick Harrier Johanna GASCOIGNE-OWENS taking 3rd lady overall and the Northern Athletics silver medal. An outstanding achievement with a fantastic time of 1.03.53 which also broke a 20 year old female club record for the 10 mile distance! Bruce CROMBIE was the first Harrier to finish completing the distance in 59.20 followed by Mark MILLER in 1.02.22. Jo was the third Harrier home then came Jim LILLICO in 1.06.45. More success came with Una McCAIG finishing 2nd in the female 65 age category. Perfect conditions meant that a number of Harriers improved on last years times from the same race including Gay and Richard EASTOE, who improved by 14 minutes! Well done to those Harriers who took part in this race and yesterdays NEHL cross country event, including Cris ATWELL who threw in a Parkrun yesterday morning as well!

Finally there were emotional scenes as David NOLAN crossed the line in his last ever race as an Alnwick Harrier. Due to work reasons David is jumping ship and joining Low Fell Running Club from the New Year. Blubbing and sobbing uncontrollably like a bairn at the end David said “I’m going to miss Alnwick Harriers, they are a wonderful club, great people and they have the best website out there” {see below}. In his career with the club he won the Most Improved Male award last year and a Gold Award this year. He’s a very nice chap who will be missed. No doubt we’ll see David in north east races for many years to come but as he’s left Alnwick we’ll walk past him and ignore him {see below}.

The first race of Cris ATWELL’s weekend treble was the Newcastle Parkrun on Saturday 17th November. Cris was 60th of the 285 finishers in 22.07.

{he didn’t say any of this and we must be nice to him even though he’s left}
