The Northumberland Athletics Network staged its inaugural Track and Field meeting on Saturday at the new athletics track, King Edward VI School, Morpeth. The inter-club competition involved Alnwick Harriers, Blyth Running Club, Morpeth Harriers and Tynedale Harriers.
Under 13, Under 15, and Under 17 athletes were able to compete in 200m, 1500m, 800m, 100m and a 4 x 100m relay on the track. Field events consisted of High Jump, Long Jump, Shot and Javelin.
It was an ideal opportunity for Alnwick’s young athletes to experience North Northumberland’s only synthetic track and Alnwick Harriers turned out a squad of eighteen. U13s taking part were Ben KELLY, Kieran DOVER, Harry DAVISON, Warren DAVISON, Joe STRAKER, Elliot CAMPBELL and Katie HILTON. U15s were Adam WEIGHTMAN, Owen DAVIDSON, Peter SKIRROW, Alex TAIT, Adam SHAFIQ, Rosie MURTON and Megan DEAKIN. And the U17 team consisted of Matthew COULTER, Isaac MOSS, George SKIRROW and Harvey COXON.
Morpeth Harriers put out a very strong squad on their home turf to take an emphatic win. Alnwick and Blyth traded second and third places throughout, with Blyth eventually coming through to secure second. Tynedale finished fourth.
There were exceptional performances from Alnwick’s U15 boys who won the 4 x 100m relay. And from Matthew COULTER, who ran PBs to win both the 100 & 200M in 12.3s and 24.9s.
