Blyth and Wooler Social Night

Wednesday 27th June saw Alnwick Harriers welcome our friends from Wooler and Blyth Running Clubs for a social evening. Members of the 3 clubs met at Willowburn where they gave event organiser Adam SPILLER their estimated times for a 5 mile run through Hulne Park. Teams of 3 (some 2) competed, with the winning team being the one with the nearest actual finishing time, compared to their estimated time. Altogether 22 teams set off at regular intervals with Sue BOLAM, Lisa WILLIAMS and Anne ALLAN marshaling out on the course and Caitlin SIMON, Mary PLUMLEY and Mark DOCTOR sorting out the complicated timings.

Congratulations to Keith SUTTON (Alnwick) and Carrie ARMSTRONG (Wooler) who finished the 5 mile route only 13 seconds outside their predicted time! Second place went to Iain SINGER (Blyth) and Jim LILLICO (Alnwick), narrowly pipping Ron INGRAM (Blyth), Jonathan KAY (Alnwick) and Pam BROWN (Wooler).

Adam SPILLER’s famous wooden spoons went to Pauline AITCHISON (Wooler), Davina LONSDALE (Blyth) and Mairi CAMPBELL (Alnwick) for the worst predicted time! The trio were a massive 3 minutes 17 seconds outside their predicted 45 minutes.

An honourable mention to the Blyth pair of Robbie BARKLEY and Jake JANSEN. They were the last group to set off and amazingly the first ones back, finishing the route in a superb 31.30.

After the running it was off to The Oaks, Alnwick for chips, sandwiches and alcohol! It was a great evening, one which we hope to continue for many years to come.

More photos from the evening are available here thanks to Anne ALLAN
