Meanwhile marathon man Cris ATWELL, who took part in today’s Kielder Way Marathon organised by the North East Marathon Club, writes:

“It was a very, very, very hot day at Kielder today. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if it was a summer race with some warm weather training under the belt. But to be suddenly faced with a marathon on a day like today at the end of a winter’s training made it very hard work. Consequently i limped home in 4.09, about 20 minutes slower than i had hoped for. So i will just have to put it behind me and get on with the next one which is in about 6 weeks. Having said that, Kielder is a place of breathtaking beauty and i’m just grateful that the guys at North East Marathon Club put in the effort to give people like me the opportunity to participate in this fantastic event.” (Cris finished 11th of the 30 starters in 4.09.03.)

The day before two Harriers took part in the Newcastle Parkrun, with Diana WEIGHTMAN winning the female 45 category in 23.48 in 108th place. Charlotte BASTON warmed up for the Prudhoe NEHL cross country fixture later in the day with a good performance finishing in 126th place in 24.36
