NEHL Cross Country – Alnwick – 29th Feb

Report on our women’s race by our roving reporter Jo Powell.

Nearly 300 ladies battled the wintry elements in the senior women’s NEHL Cross Country at The Pastures, Alnwick Castle today, 29th February.
Despite the welcome occasional winter sun, runners endured an evil and bitter headwind on their way out towards the Castle, stinging hail, a good measure of splodge and twice up Campbell Hill !!
Six female Alnwick Harriers did a brilliant job over this challenging course.
First back for the club was Lisa Baston finishing in a fantastic 8th place overall! What an achievement Lisa!
Second Alnwick Harrier back was Diana Weightman just a week after her excellent performance at the XC Nationals with a superb top 50 finish!
Flying solo from the medium pack with a 2.45 minute handicap was Jo Powell who came just inside the top 100.
Jennifer Knight and Rachel Heeley finished comfortably inside the top 200.
Ruth Doctor with minimal recent training finished just outside the top 200 and demonstrated she is made of hard stuff by saying she, “enjoyed her run around The Pastures” on this brutal February day.
Well done Ladies on all of your incredible efforts and a huge thank you to all of the marshals who stood for some considerable time in such ferocious conditions.
