Race Report

On Friday and Saturday, Alnwick Junior Harrier Talia Thompson represented Northumberland and the Duchess’s Community High School at the English Schools’ Athletics Championship.

The competition is the fourth largest athletics event in the world and is where the best athletes from each county in England compete for top prizes.

Entry to the event is by virtue of athletes being selected by County Team Managers. They not only have to be the best in their region but meet the very high qualifying standards set out by the English Schools’ Athletics Association. The annual event was held this year at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Although Talia did not quite manage to match her usual exceptional standard in the shot put, she still threw well, gained valuable experience and represented her county admirably.

Talia is the first Alnwick Junior Harrier to qualify for the Championship.
