A decent number of Alnwick Harriers were involved in races on Saturday, November 10, and Sunday, November 11.

The biggest milestone of the weekend was ironman Andy Stephenson bringing up the 1,000-competitive mile mark, after completing the Hardmoors 26.2 Goathland Trail Marathon, which was staged in the North York Moors.

Andy completed the race in 5.59.48. His time was particularly impressive considering he has only done 11.5 training miles since September, after turning his ankle on mile seven of a 60-mile race.

Bringing up 1,000 race miles is a huge achievement, with Andy starting the quest back in 2012 with a 60-miler. Since then, he has competed in a whole host of long-distance challenges, including multiple marathons, 30-milers on five New Years Days and even a 160-mile epic.

Reflecting on his efforts, he said: “I have so many fantastic memories of fellow runners, camaraderie, amazing marshals and mixed weather.”

Sticking with long-distances, Jocelyn Bolam won the Vet 55-60 category at the Mojacar half-marathon in Spain on Sunday. Tackling crippling 33-degree heat, she finished in a very respectable 2.17.

First home for Alnwick was Dominic Harris, who posted a very good 36:53, while Gareth Pearson dipped under the 40-minute barrier for the first time with 39.03.

The team – made up entirely of Alnwick Harriers – came a very impressive fifth overall. Millie was highest placed for Alnwick in fourth place. A brilliant result!
