Haddington Half Marathon/Glanton Show Hill Race/Riverside Parkrun/Druridge Bay Parkrun/Salisbury Parkrun/St Albans Parkrun/Workington Parkrun

On Sunday 12th August 2 Harriers took part in the latest of the 2018 Grand Prix races, the Haddington Half Marathon. Both ran well with Tim FALCONER crossing the line in 1.34.16 and Ian STEPHENSON in 1.53.10.

The previous day a number of Harriers both Senior and Junior took part in the undulating  Glanton Show Hill Race. It attracted athletes from across the north east and beyond. For the first year there was a shorter 1.5 mile race for the younger runners and the Seniors ran the familiar 3 mile course finishing in the show field.

Eight Alnwick athletes took part with both Juniors and Seniors setting off together. Oscar CHISHOLM (U12) lead the Alnwick charge up the first hill but afterwards even he admitted it was over ambitious and something he wouldn’t try again for a while!

The Under 12s were well represented with Lilia and Xara PURVIS finishing first and second in their category and Harry KNOX and Oscar CHISHOLM also running superbly to claim 1st and 3rd in the boys race.

Lauren BROWN (13) having raced last year chose to run the longer 3 mile course which proved to be a wise decision. Lauren ran a well-paced race taking on the hills with confidence and finishing strongly over the last half mile as first female.

Senior men Mike TELFER, Mark HUME and George WILLIAMS ran well but unlike the Juniors didn’t pick up any medals!

Amongst the medal winners was also Colin DONNELLY a former British Fell running champion, world veteran champion and winner and record holder of numerous classic British fell races. A fantastic local race that was well attended, well organised and well supported.

Also on Saturday there were loads of Harriers in action at various 5k parkruns, with the fastest time being set by Jon ARCHER at the Riverside Parkrun at Chester le Street. Jon clocked a 5k pb of 18.44 to finish 7th overall. Close to home a decent number took part in the Druridge Bay Parkrun, with Laurence REEVES finishing 5th overall in 19.40. Just a few seconds back in 19.47 was Phil HALL in 8th, whilst David BARNES was 19th. The highlight for our women was Alice TETLEY-PAUL who finished 2nd female in 23rd place. Results:
