Royal Signals Relays/Druridge Bay Parkrun/Newbiggin By The Sea Parkrun/Great North West Half Marathon

On Saturday 17th February Alnwick Harriers sent down 2 teams of 6 men to take part in the Royal Signals Relays at Hetton Lyons Country Park. All 12 runners ran their hearts out and produced some excellent result, with our A team finishing a very good 11th of 74 teams. For the A team the fastest legs were by David MILNE and Dan TURNBULL who completed their 2.2 mile legs in 11.30 and 11.33 respectively, with Richard JOHNSON not far behind, whilst the fastest runner in the B team was Jon ARCHER with a very good 13.17. Many thanks to Geoff CAMPBELL for sorting the teams and persuading runners to take part at the last minute.


11-Dan TURNBULL 11.33, Richard JOHNSON 11.53, Steve PATTERSON 12.25, Adam FLETCHER 13.03, James WILLOUGHBY 13.10 and David MILNE 11.30. Total time=73.34

53-Chris HALL 16.26, John CUTHBERT 14.27, Gareth PEARSON 14.23, Steve STUDLEY 14.44, Jon DUFFY 14.47 and Jon ARCHER 13.17. Total time=88.04

Earlier in the day one of the Junior starlets in Millie BREESE notched a 5k pb at the Druridge Bay Parkrun. Millie was 2nd female finisher and 8th overall in an extremely good 20.13. Lisa ATHEY was 3rd female home, whilst another Junior in Rebecca HEELEY knocked more time off her previous best. For the lads Junior Ollie TELFER was 7th overall in 20.10, followed by Neil HAMILTON and Andrew WILDE. Results:

Elsewhere Dean STACKHOUSE returned to action at Newbiggin By The Sea Parkrun where he finished 17th in 24.12.

Finally for the weekend Dominic HARRIS put in a classy performance at the Great North West Half Marathon in Blackpool on Sunday 18th February. Well into his marathon training Dom knocked over 3 minutes off his previous half marathon best to finish 18th in a brilliant 1.21.20. This bodes well for his marathon attempt in the spring!
