On Saturday 25th November North Shields Poly hosted the Norman Woodcock Memorial Relay at Newcastle Racecourse. In a change to the old 5 mile race format this was the first year that the event was held as a relay, and by all accounts it was a great success. 6 Harriers formed 2 team and all performed very well over their 1.66 mile leg, with the teams finishing 18th and 42nd of the 75 complete teams. Results:
18-Jason DAWSON (10.15), Alice TETLEY-PAUL (10.59) and Shaun LAND (9.44)=30.58
42-Diana WEIGHTMAN (11.49), Beverley BLYTHE (12.24) and John CUTHBERT (10.04)=34.17
Earlier that day a good number of Harriers took part in the Druridge Bay Parkrun, where it was the final chance to improve their 2017 Grand Prix scores. 1st Harrier, just 1 second outside his course pb, was Dominic HARRIS. Dom finished 4th overall in 18.26, an excellent time considering the cold and slippy conditions. Tim FALCONER and David HINDMARSH went into this race tied for 2nd in the Grand Prix standings, so it was very fitting that the pair battled throughout the 5k and finished within a whisker of each other. Tim was 13th, just 2 seconds ahead of David in 14th. They won the male 50 and 55th categories respectively. Also of note it was great to see Steve STUDLEY score a course pb, whilst Carole PAGE was 3rd female finisher, Nell GAIR ran another pb, whilst younsters Rebecca HEELEY ran a pb and Louise SYERS completed her first parkrun! Results:
4-Dominic HARRIS 18.26 (70.52%)
