NEHL Aykley Heads

On Saturday 18th November the 3rd of the 6 North East Harrier League cross country fixtures took place, down at Aykley Heads in Durham. As always the Harriers who made the 100 mile round trip to the event performed well and did the club proud. The highlights came from the Under 13 Girls team, the Senior Mens team and in particular David MILNE, and from Alice TETLEY-PAUL who is doing her best to stay in the Slow Pack!

The Under 11 girls fielded the biggest team for the Junior section with a good turnout of 7 athletes. Lillia PURVIS was first finisher for us followed by Evie GODDEN and Tess HINDMARSH. The other girls were closely bunched not far behind. Harris HALL was first Under 11 boy home for the club with team mate Ben STUDLEY next.

The Under 13 girls have had a great start to the season and were looking to improve on their second place position in the league. New Harrier Sam POTTS certainly stepped up to the mark winning in her first race for the club, an excellent achievement! Lauren BROWN running with fantastic form from the Fast Pack was once again fastest runner on the day in second place, with Millie BREESE also from the fast pack in a superb 9th place. Beth CARRAGHER and Sophie BURN completed the team with the girls finishing in a convincing first place moving them up to top spot in the league after the first 3 fixtures! In the overall league Grand Prix standings Lauren is first of the 115 Under 13s who’ve taken part, whilst Millie is 4th.

Max MURRAY JOHN and Luke STUDLEY represented the Under 13 boys. Max ran from the Fast Pack and placed highest running the 3.3k course in 13.47 to finish in a good 26th position. Max is 6th of the 116 Under 13s in the overall Grand Prix standings at present!

The Under 15 boys were lead home by Joseph GODDEN who had an excellent race finishing 11th overall placing him dangerously close to the promotion line! Next home running well was Max BREESE and the third team counter was Ben MURRAY JOHN from the Fast Pack. There were other good runs from Owen DOUGLAS, James CARRAGHER and Joe HEMSLEY. The team finished once again in a solid 5th position. Well done!

Finally, it was great to see the U17 girls back in action. Sophie ENSER and Eve BUDDLE ran well and are looking forward to next fixture!

For the Seniors the mens team had another good performance, finishing 5th of the 11 teams on the day. First home for us was David MILNE who scorched through the field from the Fast Pack to finish 31st overall. 2nd counter for us from the Slow Pack was Jason DAWSON who no doubt has one eye on promotion to the Medium Pack in the coming races. Ross WILSON and Adam FLETCHER, from the Medium Pack, finished within a few seconds. They in turn were just ahead of Fast Pack runner Steve CARRAGHER and Medium Pack team captain Dominic HARRIS who was the final counter. Their performances means that we are in 2nd place overall and are still in with an excellent chance of promotion to the top flight with half the season gone. Well done to the other Harriers who took part including Jon DUFFY, who was not far away from being a counter, and Chris CALVERT who made his Harrier League debut. Results:

The Senior Women didn’t have the best day at the office finishing 9th of the 10 teams on the day, a performance which sees them drop to 9th overall after the 3 fixtures. Alice TETLEY-PAUL, for the 2nd race running, somehow managed to finish just outside the promotion spots and remains in the Slow Pack thanks to her 36th place finish. Diana WEIGHTMAN was next home for us just under half a minute behind Alice, with new Medium Pack runner Lisa BASTON next. 4th and final counter for us was Emma McGEE, finishing as a counter for the first time. Just behind Emma there was a great battle between Alison WRIGHT, Bev BLYTHE and Laura McLEAN JR. In the league Grand Prix standings Alice is an amazing 9th of just over 200 Senior Women, whilst in the Veteran table Alison is our highest placed athlete in 52nd of over 500 runners! Results:
