Sherman Cup and Davison Shield/Druridge Bay Parkrun/Workington Parkrun/Jedburgh 10k and Half Marathon/Hexham 10k

On Saturday 28th October Temple Park in South Shields hosted the annual Sherman Cup and Davison Shield cross country races. There were smaller fields than in the North East Harrier League fixtures, though the main difference is that there are no packs. All the Harriers who took part performed very well!

A small Junior Harrier team raced at the Sherman Cup but with some good results on a blustery windy day. Cooper WILDE and Ava FINDLAY were first to race representing the Under 11s in a large field of athletes, both racing well in the fast 1km race.

In the Under 13 girls race Lauren BROWN and Millie BREESE had their first opportunity of the season to race without their Fast Pack handicap. Lauren and Millie were both close to the front from the outset of their 3k race and held their places until 500m from the finish. Millie raced hard but on this occasion couldn’t quite hold on long enough to secure a medal position but managed an excellent 5th place. Lauren ran a confident race looking comfortable in second place until the final 200m where she found her extra gear and cruised home to victory with an impressive turn of speed. Although she has been fastest from the Fast Pack in her first four races of this season Lauren certainly won this one with the most confidence, an excellent result.

In the boys Under 13s race Max MURRAY JOHN ran another superb race finishing in 11th place, a great result for a first year Under 13. Team mate Finlay WILDE also had a good race finishing 26th out of nearly 80 runners. The boys will do well at the next league meeting at Aykley Heads, Durham in November.

Finally racing over the same course Under 15s Ben MURRAY JOHN and Ollie TELFER were Alnwicks final Junior runners to compete on the day. Ollie was fastest Alnwick Junior of the day finishing the 3k course in 11.58 in 19th place with Max just 15 seconds behind in 22nd.

In the Senior races the best performances came courtesy of our women, with 2 finishing in the top 10 and another 2 not far behind. Jo GASCOIGNE-OWENS was an excellent 7th overall, just 8 seconds ahead of club mate Rachelle FALLOON. Alice TETLEY-PAUL continues to improve and finished 49th, just ahead of Karen KELLY. Thanks to a good run by Diana WEIGHTMAN the Veteran trio of Jo, Karen and Diana finished a pleasing 6th of the 31 teams.

For the men just the 6 took part with Steve PATTERSON being our first finisher in 79th. It was great to see Steve back in Alnwick colours after a spell away with another club. Dominic HARRIS was next home followed by Jason DAWSON, Dean STACKHOUSE, Andrew WILDE and Kevin McGEE. Results:
