Great North Run/Dumfries Half Marathon/Jungfrau Marathon/Druridge Bay Parkrun/Peterborough Parkrun/Wimpole Estate Parkrun/Workington Parkrun

There were some excellent performances from the huge number of Harriers who took part in the Great North Run on Sunday 10th September, with a pleasing number of personal best performances over the half marathon distance. First home for us was Dan LENG in 1.20.17, followed just over a minute later by Richard JOHNSON who was a few seconds outside his best at the distance. Third Harrier home and the first female for us was Jo GASGOIGNE-OWENS. Jo, running from the Elite athletes section, was 21st female overall in 1.23.48 which is easily the quickest half by a female Harrier this year. James WILLOUGHBY and John CUTHBERT, two of the front runners for the Male Most Improved trophy this year, were next home in pbs with Johns about 10 minutes faster than the Great North Run in 2016! David HINDMARSH was home in 1.31.10 head of a new Harrier, Jon ARCHER, who ran a pb of 1.31.35. Amongst the other Harriers who completed the race Karen KELLY was round in 1.38.59, Lisa BASTON knocked 4 minutes off her previous pb and Laura McLEAN was about 10 minutes quicker than last year.

The previous day away from the fast and flat route between Newcastle and South Shields Alice TETLEY-PAUL was taking part in a very different event, the Jungfrau Marathon in the Swiss Alps! On a really, really hard course Alice ran well to finish 428th female of the 1165 running in 5.24.25. As you can see from the photo she is rightly happy!
