14 Harriers took part in the brutally tough Chevy Chase Fell Race on Saturday 1st July, a 20 mile race organised by Wooler Running Club. The event starts and finishes in Wooler and takes in ascents of both Cheviot and Hedgehope. Following on from some excellent performances in shorter fell races Graham SIMPSON was our 1st athlete to finish in 3rd place. Graham came home in 3.17.38 and won the 1st local male award. Next home for us were Adam FLETCHER in 16th and Adam SPILLER in 39th. 1st lady for us was Karen KELLY, followed by Alice TETLEY-PAUL and Alison WRIGHT. Well done to all for taking part!

Over in Cumbria that day Mark DOCTOR tackled his first ever Ultra event, the Lakeland Trails 55k. This race starts and finishes in Ambleside, and includes some tough climbs such as over Kirkstone Pass and Grisedale Hause. Due to issues with landowners the route was actually extended meaning the race was actually 36.5 miles! Mark thoroughly enjoyed the event and hopes to persuade a few more Harriers to take part next year. Of the 435 finishers Mark was 207th in 9.31.06.
