George Ogle Memorial Race/Clive Cookson 10k/Vindolanda 10k/Track Meetings at Jarrow and St Ives

11 Harriers took part in the latest Grand Prix event on Wednesday 24th May, the George Ogle Memorial Race at Swalwell. This multi terrain race of about 5.75 miles was held in hot conditions on a lovely course along the Derwent Valley. First Harrier back, just as he was last year, was Tim FALCONER. He was 3 seconds slower than in 2016 finishing in 40.09. Next was David HINDMARSH, followed by the fast improving John CUTHBERT then Mark DOCTOR. Diana WEIGHTMAN was the 1st of the female Harriers to finish, followed by Conrad STEWART and Ruth DOCTOR. Laura McLEAN was 30 seconds behind Ruth, then came John ROSS, Mary PLUMLEY and Stuart BRUCE. Great fun was had by all! Grand Prix results will be out soon……

That same night 3 Harriers took part in the Clive Cookson 10k organised by North Shields Poly. On a mostly flat course all 3 acquitted themselves very well. Results:

Another 3 Harriers took part in the tough Vindolanda 10k, a race which started and finished outside the ancient Roman fort. Lisa ATHEY ran really well and finished as 4th female. She was 30th overall of the 183 runners in 48.22. Richard and Gay EASTOE ran together, with Gay finishing 2nd in the female 60 category. They finished in 151st and 152nd in 1.05.08 and 1.05.09, with Richard just ahead.

2 Senior Harriers were in action on the track with Rachelle FALLOON down at St Ives in Cambridgshire and Dominic HARRIS at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow. Rachelle took part in the 3000 metres and won it in 10.53! Meanwhile Dominic won his heat in the 800 metres in 2.17.8 and was 13th of 17 in the 3000 metres in 10.20.8. 3 Junior Harriers also took part in various events that night. All 3 competed in the Shot Putt with Ollie TELFER throwing 7.65, Finlay TELFER 5.92 and Antje HALL 5.63. In the high jump Ollie jumped 1.30 and Finlay 1.10, an in the 200 metres Antje finished 5th in her heat in 31.0.
