We are incredibly proud to announce that The Northumberland Coastal Run has been awarded Bronze in the Half Marathon category at the prestigious ‘Race of the Year Awards 2017’ which were held at the O2 in London last week!
This award ceremony was been set up to identify and recognise the best running events every year from the running publics nominations and votes. The competition was incredibly tough, and every year hundreds of running events try to secure one of the much-coveted awards.
Our journey started last September when The Northumberland Coastal Run was put forward and the first round of voting secured us a place in the top 12 races. In December voting re-opened we had until April to try and encourage as many votes as possible. Club members, family, friends and the local and wider community all helped to spread the word and encourage people to vote.
We are very proud of our local race, which has taken place every July since 1979. The dedication and organisation behind this event is inspiring and every year over a thousand participants line up at the start on Beadnell beach to take part in the glorious 14-mile race to Alnmouth. The coastline boats some of the most dramatic scenery in the UK and is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, rolling dunes and historic landscape.
On behalf of the Alnwick Harriers Running Club I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their support, and for taking time out to vote and make this all possible.
This year’s race is on Sunday 23rd July 2017, we look forward to seeing you there.
