Bridges of the Tyne 5 Mile Road Race/Tynedale 10k/Curfew Run

7 Harriers took part in the latest of the 2016 Grand Prix events, the fast and furious Bridges of the Tyne 5 Mile Road Race on Tuesday 6th July. On a really flat course there were some excellent times, notably a club record for Jo GASCOIGNE-OWENS at the 5 mile distance! Doubling as the North East 5 Mile Championships this race saw Jo win the bronze medal for coming 3rd in 30.16, a time which saw her finish 34th overall. Just ahead of her after an excellent race was the first Harrier to finish, Richard JOHNSON. He clocked 29.37 to finish 30th, just over a minute ahead of Dominic HARRIS. Slightly further back Micky AISTON and Andy SQUIRES finished close to each other, whilst Dave COATES and John ROSS were further back. Well done to everyone!

The following night there was an outstanding performance from Dan LENG at the Tynedale 10k. On this excellent course and in perfect racing conditions Dan ran the quickest 10k by a Harrier since the legend David KIRKLAND at the same race 3 years ago. Dan clocked a very impressive 35.12 to finish 12th in a very good field. Angie EMBLETON, John CUTHBERT, Denise DRUMMOND all acquitted themselves well, as did Dave COATES who was racing for the 2nd consecutive night! Results:

Also that night up in Berwick there was yet more success for the club in the Tweed Striders organised Curfew Run. The event starts at The Barracks, Berwick and is a 1.2 mile run around the town walls with the aim being to beat the time it takes the Curfew Bell to toll – 13 minutes. Congratulations to Junior Harrier Callie HENDERSON who was 1st female finisher in 8.02 to finish 17th overall. Jim LILLICO finished two places ahead in 7.59, whilst his daughter Annabel was 37th in 9.20. There was even more success for the HENDERSON family as Callies younger sister Ellie was the 1st girl in the Junior Curfew Run!
