6 Harriers tackled the very tough 20 mile Chevy Chase Fell Race on Saturday 2nd July. This excellent event, organised by Wooler RC, takes in both Cheviot and Hedgehope though arguably the 10 or so miles after the climbs are just as tough! First home for us was Adam FLETCHER in an excellent 9th place. Rob MURRAY-JOHN was 34th in just over 3 hours 50, just ahead of Graham SIMPSON and Adam SPILLER. Karen KELLY and Andy STEPHENSON also took part in the race. Results:

5 Harriers also took part in another extremely tough event that day, the Lakeland Trails organised 55k Ultimate Trail race. The event started and finished in Ambleside, taking in some of the best the Lake District has to offer. All 5 did very well in apparently horrid conditions! Results (chip timing):

Earlier in the day there were a whole host of Harriers in action at various parkrun events around the country. Closest to home at Druridge Bay there was easily the best performance of the day. Phil HEMSLEY achieved the 3rd best performance in the events history, in terms of WAVA grading, when he finished 2nd in 17.38. This was also a course record in the male 50 category. Carole PAGE was for the 2nd consecutive week the winner of the ladies race, clocking 21.56. Also of note Ruth DOCTOR was 1st in the female 40 category, whilst Pam WHELDON was 1st in the female 60 age group.

At South Shields Peter GREY was the winner of the male 55 category in 20.04, whilst at Workington both Gay and Richard EASTOE won the aged 60 categories. Elsewhere Nick ARMSTRONG once again ran at the Rising Sun Parkrun, Zoe ROBSON was in action at the Nonsuch Parkrun in Surrey and Emma SHELL competed at the Southwick Parkrun in Wiltshire.

The following day Keith SHOTTON and John ROSS took part in the Great North 10k at Gateshead. Keith was 820th in 50.28 and John was 1292nd in 55.44.


Also that day the latest Run Northumberland event took place, the Coquet Half Marathon. The course was a tough one which started and finished in Rothbury, taking in hamlets like Hepple, Bickerton and Tosson. There were numerous age category wins for us as well as a team prize! 1st Harrier to finish was Richard JOHNSON. He was 10th of the 92 runners in a decent 1.35.52 given the course. Michael CAIRNS was slightly further back, whilst Paul ROBINSON was our 3rd male finisher. For the ladies Mel STEER put in a good run to finish 31st overall to win the female 45 category. Helen DICKINSON was next Harrier, followed by the female 60 age category winner Gay EASTOE. Mel, Helen and Gay were winners of the female team trophy! Other category winners were Mairi CAMPBELL in the female 50 age group and Richard EASTOE in the male 60 category. Results:

Back on Wednesday 29th June Mark DOCTOR was the sole Harrier in action in the Kirkley 10k, an undulating race on very quiet roads near Ponteland. Mark was 24th of the 103 runners in 44.24. The following night Micky AISTON took part in the Low Fell RC organised Angel View 5. Micky was 54th of just under 100 runners in 43.33.
